How does the laser work?
ND: YAG is an acronym for Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet, which is the crystal used as a lasing medium in this device. The ND:YAG laser is a hand-held device with a cooling tip, which helps you relax during your treatment and eases any discomfort. It’s non-ablative, which means the laser doesn’t break the skin. The laser uses light wavelengths that focus only on the small spider veins, causing the blood within the vein to coagulate. When this happens, the vein will seal shut and collapse on itself. The laser delivers the exact amount of energy needed to do this and does not cause any tissue damage in the treatment area. The vein is easily reabsorbed by the body and vanishes after four to six weeks.
Is the laser treatment uncomfortable?
Our patients have found that this state-of-the-art laser vein removal treatment is very tolerable. Some patients have noticed a slight pinching sensation. The laser is equipped with a cooling tip which lessens discomfort, and a topical anesthetic, although not needed, can also be applied if desired.
How many sessions with the laser will I need?
Many facial cases require only one or two sessions depending on the specific circumstances of the patient. Spider veins on the legs will likely require more sessions. Our staff can give you a better idea of the treatment needed after your consultation.
Do I need to take time off for recovery?
You don’t need any downtime from work, school, or normal life with this advanced laser treatment! You may have a small amount of redness immediately after the treatment, which can easily be covered with concealer.
